Jeffery K. Rubenstein, Esq. is a well-established, influential and vibrant legal voice in Los Angeles criminal law circles. He has been a licensed attorney and active member of the legal community in California since 1993.

After obtaining his bachelor of arts at UCLA, then a law degree from Loyola Law School, Mr. Rubenstein became a prosecutor with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. There he prosecuted both felony and misdemeanor cases and worked in East Los Angeles, Eastlake Juvenile Office, Rio Hondo, Pasadena, Van Nuys and the Downtown Criminal Courts Building, now called the Clara Shortridge Folz Criminal Justice Center.

In addition to brilliant courtroom oratory, Jeff Rubenstein is also a skilled lecturer. While a deputy district attorney, on numerous occasions he was given the honor of lecturing about domestic violence and stalking cases at women’s shelters and in front of several local civic organizations.

Mr. Rubenstein also was involved in “Project LEAD,” a volunteer program where attorneys spoke about the legal system on a monthly basis to at-risk middle school students in underprivileged neighborhoods

He left the D.A.’s office in 1998 and opened the Law Offices of Jeffery K. Rubenstein in order to provide clients with his knowledge and extensive experience in criminal law. As the firm’s lead attorney, he personally evaluates each and every case to ensure that clients receive the best possible legal defense.

He has handled legal matters for a wide variety of businesses and individuals, several having been media-intensive, high profile cases involving celebrity clients.

Mr. Rubenstein has also provided his legal opinion extensively on television, including appearances on MSNBC’s “Abrams Report,” CBS News and “Inside Edition.” He most recently has been quoted in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and People Magazine for providing legal expertise on several celebrity cases that have received media attention.

In addition to working as a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Rubenstein is a law professor and has been a judge pro-tem since 1999 on small claims matters throughout Los Angeles County.

In 2002 Mr. Rubenstein began teaching at National University’s graduate school as a professor of public policy and administration. He also taught law classes for Los Angeles County sheriffs seeking promotions within the department, and he has been a writer and coach for the Constitutional Rights Foundation.

Mr. Rubenstein created a California mock trial competition and associated materials for the foundation’s Summer Law Institute held annually at the UCLA School of Law. Additionally, Mr. Rubenstein attended the Fidler Institute on Criminal Justice at Loyola Law School.

He is also vigorously involved in the criminal law organizations, legal groups and bar associations listed above, as well as his local community by lecturing and volunteering at Beit T’Shuvah and the Jewish Federation and contributing to the Ness Counseling Center.

Mr. Rubenstein also writes expert legal opinion articles, such as the source of this excerpt on hit and run accidents: “Over the years many people who have been involved in hit and runs have come to me and I have helped get them out of trouble. Sometimes I have been able to make sure that no charges were filed and even when charges were filed, I was able to either get them dismissed or have been able to resolve them with relatively minor consequences.”

Another article available online called “Red Light, Green Light: A Social History of Crime and Crime in Los Angeles” details the origins of law forming the foundation of civilized human societies and “some of the reasons behind the modern evolution of crime and why we have crimes.” The article notes that “with no laws, people could kill, rape, rob, beat and enslave with impunity, Plato’s Utopia would be nowhere to be found. So what happens? How and why are societies formed? The answer, according to Locke and Hobbs, lies in the creation of a ‘Social Contract.’”

He also provides informative legal insight through online video on topics that include how to find a good criminal defense lawyer, police searches, entrapment and what to expect through the stages of the criminal law process.
